Using similar vision, strict environmental ethics, and sourcing provenance that created the neighbouring big sister – multi-award winning Captain’s Galley Sea Food Restaurant – we wanted a Seafood Bar which opens earlier in the day, serving less expensive, quicker Harbour (street) Food. The likes we all love in every harbour when holidaying in the continent. But we were put off by the thought of going through with all that’s involved. That was until our good friend and 2 Michelin star chef ‘Andrew Fairlie’ from Gleneagles, while up visiting us, made the (now memorable) very loose comment “You know what would go a bomb out here, a Fish ‘n Chip kiosk, serving the fish that’s landed fresh daily, right at your door.”
“Why didn’t we think of that?” and the project was born. The purpose-built Seafood Bar arrived pretty quickly, but being the North Highlands we had to design an environment that provided additional warmth and protection from the elements. Travellers and locals alike can now sit in comfort while enjoying classic dishes like Roast Lobster & Chips, Moules Frites, Grilled Langoustines, Hand Dived Scallops, freshly shucked Oysters, or the very freshest Fish ‘n Chips. Keep an eye on the Orkney Ferry or the fishing boats that earlier the same day landed the fish you eat and watch the crews preparing for their next fishing trip.
